Professional photographers Kevin and Pansa Landwer-Johan will provide you with a huge variety of photo opportunities, most of which are unique to Chiang Mai Photo Workshops, and will allow you to capture the most stunning images.

This unique workshop provides opportunities to photograph people and places you won’t find on regular photography tours. The groups are small, a maximum of six people, and your leaders are both professional photographers who have an intimate knowledge of the culture and photography. The locations are varied and diverse in rural and urban settings in and around Chiang Mai, Thailand. You will learn and/or reinforce photography techniques with on site tutoring from both Kevin and Pansa, or just be free to photograph. As time allows there will also be optional image reviews by our team with encouragement on how to improve both technically and creatively.
We will meet Chiang Mai, Thailand on the afternoon of February 6th for introductions, orientation and our an evening shoot. Our first full day is outside the city where we will photograph with an elephant and also a model in traditional attire.
In the city we spend the following days and evenings photographing temples, monks, more beautiful Thai models. We’ll also spend most of one day out of the city again photographing ethnic minority peoples living in their traditional environment and with Kevin’s portable daylight studio and gain insights into making portraits using natural light.
We are pleased to provide you with the opportunity to photograph beautiful Thai models during a number of our workshop sessions. We are aware that on many photography tours and workshops participants do not get to work with costumed models so we are delighted to offer this are part of our program. Northern Thai people are generally of a relaxed, friendly nature – even so, we choose our models carefully so they are comfortable to be photographed and easy to work with. Model releases for each model can be arranged if you wish.

Gather in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We will pick you up at the airport and get you checked into you room before our introduction and orientation session at 2pm. Our first evening shoot will be nearby at the ornate temple – Wat Pra Singh from 5pm until 6:30pm. We will then enjoy dinner together at a rooftop restaurant over looking the city.
Pick up is at 8am. In the morning we head a short way out of Chiang Mai city and will be photographing at a tea plantation with Akha ethnic minority women. Lunch is at a local Thai restaurant by the river. During the afternoon we work with a model wearing a traditional Thai costume together with an elephant at one of the near by elephant camps.
Pick up is at 8am. Our morning session is at Monthathan Waterfall with another costumed model. The location provides a beautiful backdrop for a stunning model.
During the afternoon we spend time at our computers reviewing images and post processing. Both Kevin and Pansa will be available to share their knowledge and experience of digital imaging workflow. Choosing the best images is often difficult for many people and with Kevin and Pansa’s expert guidance they will lend you insights to confidently choose your best shots.
At 4pm we leave for our evening shoot is at the famous Wat Doi Suthep on the mountain over looking Chiang Mai. The skies are generally clear during February so we can expect some wonderful vistas across the city as well as extraordinary temple scenes.
Pick up is at 8am. Our morning session is spent at an historic temple site with another beautiful model in costume. At Wat Ched Yot there’s a diverse array of shooting locations with or without a model.
In the afternoon we relocate to another, very different temple to work with a new model in costume and around the temple grounds themselves. At this temple there’s a Buddha statue ‘cemetery’ with a collection of broken and discarded idols. There’s also a series of 400 year old meditation tunnels we can explore and photograph.
In the evening we will be back in the city to photograph the historic Iron Bridge.
Pick up is at 8am. We spend our morning at the ethnic minority peoples’ village. The people here are friendly and open to being photographed. Kevin and Pansa visit this location frequently and have built up a great rapport with the people. You will also have opportunity to make many portraits using Kevin’s special daylight portrait studio that will be set up on location.
We’ll stop for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants in the countryside. Here we’ll spend some time reviewing your photos and looking more at post processing and digital workflow.
Later in the afternoon you have the option of enjoying a traditional Thai massage.
There’s no evening shoot planned as we have an early start on the morning of the 10th.
Pick up is at 6am. We arise early in the morning and spend time photographing the Buddhist monks as the walk and receive alms from people in the street. This is an age old tradition the monks practice and is how they are provided for by the local community. You will also have opportunity to take part in making offerings if you wish to.
From here we head to our final shooting location and spend the time in a contemplative temple gardens capturing more nature, architecture and scenery up at Wat Pa Laat with another beautiful model in traditional costume.
Then we head back to the hotel to check out. Over lunch we will prepare for and present a final slide show of our images together.

We require a minimum of two people to register to enable us to run this workshop. If we do not have two people registered by the cut off date (January 10th 2018) we will refund 100% of deposits that have already been made.
